Are you stuck on unnecessary steps?

Most of the quibbles that therapy approaches have with each other are about unnecessary steps.

Think of it like this.

Two people are stood in front of a door debating how to open it.

One says: you have to clap your hands twice, do a starjump, put the key in the lock and turn it.

The other says: no, that’s not it – you have to clap your hands *three* times, put the key in the lock, do a breathing exercise – and *then* turn the key!

An onlooker says: yeah but what about the bilateral eye movements?

Another shows up who doesn’t know the door has a lock and key at all. They say unlocking a door is impossible, so they advise struggling through the cat flap instead!

Therapy steps can be categorised in four ways:

1. literally designed to keep the struggle
2. irrelevant
3. helpful but not essential
4. necessary to remove trauma response

When you know which is which, you can learn new approaches lightning fast, and get client results more effectively too.

You focus only on steps that are necessary or helpful for unlocking trauma’s door. You master how to trigger memory reconsolidation.
